Esha Latchman

Law Clerk

Esha Latchman is a law clerk with the Jagan Law Firm in the Brooklyn and Queens offices and is currently a law student. Esha is deeply committed to advocating for undocumented immigrants and assisting them on their pathway to citizenship. Esha worked as a legal intern and was convinced by Mrs. Jagan to work with the firm in a full-time paralegal capacity before attending law school.  Esha took a leap of faith and worked the firm before attending law school, which prepared Esha not only to be a law student but to be an advocate. Esha confidently entered law school after aiding the firm in becoming more efficient, technologically advanced and working hands on to assist many clients. Esha returned to the firm during the summer to work as a law clerk and continues to maintain a relationship with the firm throughout her time in school.

Education

Esha received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice-CUNY, graduating in May 2023.

Esha is currently completing her Juris Doctor Degree at Touro University Jacob D. Fushsberg Law Center.

A Little Bit About Esha…

Esha’s legal journey began at the Jagan Law Firm, where she started as an intern and advanced to the role of senior paralegal. She has worked on a range of immigration matters, including Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) petitions, National Visa Center (NVC) processing, waiver applications, and family-based adjustment cases. Esha thrives on learning and understanding, she won’t simply do a job, she will go the extra mile to and deeply study her tasks so that she is efficient. Esha has assisted the firm in becoming more systematic by implementing new policies within the firm, she also singlehandedly created a firm handbook to assist all future employees with learning the types of cases the firm handles so that everyone is equipped with useful knowledge and material.

As a former undocumented immigrant herself, Esha has always had a passion for helping others navigate the immigration system. The day she received her green card, she made a personal vow to become an immigration attorney—dedicated to helping others, just as she was once helped. That moment marked the beginning of her path in the legal field. Esha originally emailed the firm for an internship opportunity, she then called and followed up for one year until an opportunity opened up, at the time the firm never knew Esha would become such an important member of the firm. Esha’s persistence is a testament to hard work and going after ones dreams.

At Touro Law Center, Esha is an active member of the Delta Theta Phi law fraternity and serves as Secretary of the Asian American Law Society. She was recently invited to join the prestigious Moot Court Honor Society. Additionally, she received an invitation from the Director of the Immigration Clinic to participate in the clinic next year, where she will work on complex immigration cases, including asylum.

Esha’s goal during law school is to gain practical, hands-on experience in all areas of immigration law—from asylum applications to deportation defense—through internships, clinical programs, and real-world legal work.

She plans to return to the Jagan Law Firm after completing her law degree, where she hopes to expand the firm’s immigration department. In the meantime, she works part-time at the firm as a law clerk, preparing clients for immigration interviews, drafting waiver memorandums, and assisting attorneys with tasks such as upgrading case categories and submitting inquiries to the NVC. Esha is driven by a desire to serve the Caribbean community—whose struggles she understands firsthand—and is inspired by the firm's unwavering dedication to helping those in need.

Words From Esha: “The Jagan Law Firm isn’t just an office you go to for your immigration needs. It’s a place where you will find a team that is not only going to be completely honest with you but will be with you every step of the way to meet your end goal. Behind every member is an untold story that drives them with both passion and empathy.”
